Boymeetsboyblog.com Gives Back

As Summer draws closer and schedules open up, it is time to give back to your community! That's right, find and make time in between oiling up for the beach and charging your cards on shopping sprees. There are many organizations in your local area that need your help and expertise. I have decided that I would do just that. For the past few years I have been wanting to get more involved, but my schedule never allowed me to, plus I didn't know where to start and exactly what organization I wanted to help out.

To make it easier I compiled a list for myself and the readers to get a better idea of some of the organizations out in the local area. From the skylines of Los Angeles, and the Housewives of Orange County, to the fields of the Inland Empire, here is a list of places YOU can get involved.

AIDs Project Los Angeles: One of the largest organizations, the APLA is always looking for volunteers to help out in one of their many programs. From helping out at their local offices and front desk, to organizing support for AIDs Walk LA. This is definitely a place that is out to help the community in the fight against AIDs.

L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center: Offering hundreds of ways YOU can donate, organize, and volunteer your time, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center is out to Empower, Heal, Advocate, and Lead. The only missing piece of the puzzle is YOU. Check out their different services and see where you would like to help out.

Project Angel Food: Organized in 1989, Project Angel Food, has set out to nourish the spirit of men, women, and children who have been affected by HIV/AIDs, cancer, and other life threatening diseases. You can volunteer by driving, cooking, event planning, or with in the office. Check out how to get started!

AIDs Services Foundation Orange County (ASFOC): Founded in 1985, the ASFOC, has set out to improve the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDs in Orange County. You can donate or give of your time to some of their programs such as P.A.W.S., food pantry and delivery, family and children programs, special events, and much more. See their page for opportunities.

The Center Orange County: Organized as a volunteer organization in 1971, The Center, was established to advocate on the behalf of the Orange County LGBTQ community. For a list of events and how you can volunteer and donate, go to their home page!

Jeffrey Owens Community Center (JOCC): One of the most recent organizations to pop up after a tragic event in the Inland Empire, the JOCC has been set up to promote health and well-being of youth and adults in the San Bernardino and Riverside counties by offering support, education, and advocacy regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. You can find ways to donate or support by clicking here!

Equality Inland Empire: Formed after the passing of Proposition 8, this grassroots group formed out of other local non profit groups, families, community members, and neighbors. Their purpose is to end discrimination, based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the Inland Empire. Go to their site to check out their listing of local events and ways you can donate.

Yes people, it is that simple. All that is required is a giving heart! When you are ready and feel like you want to give back to your local community, do a search and see what you can do. The rest is up to YOU...we are the difference!

  1. Definitely! And there are so many other organizations one can get involved with, even if they can't volunteer their time. Donations are alway welcome!
