Gay/Straight Boy Fitness 1.0.1: Facial Fitness

I have enlisted the help of my good friend, the beauty guru, Kendra Marie Studdert, founder/dreamer of YOUTHskin/care© and YOUTHblog, to help the young gay and straight guy (because I know you secretly read my blog, and want me to be your Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), to highlight some items that every man should have on his drug store/Target/online shopping list. We kept in mind affordability...so MEN, there is no excuse to why you can't add this small routine that will protect and help your face in the long run and land you some amazing dates!

First things first, you need a great cleanser! Here are a few to try:

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser; $9; www.cetaphil.com
Coveted by many celebrities and available at your local drugstore, this product is the must-go-to if you can't get your hands on one of the others. It also rinses residue free, is great for all skin types, and leaves your skin feeling AMAZING!

Clinique Face Soap; $12; www.clinique.com
It leaves your skin feeling refreshed, never tight or dry. Spend the extra dollar and it comes in its own case, which is great for when you are traveling or spending the night at that AMAZING guy's house!

Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleanser

Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleanser; $12; www.mariobadescu.com
Thanks to the great mineral rich and anti-inflammatory Seaweed, this mild and gentle exfoliating cleanser, rinses residue free, is great for all skin types, and helps reduce inflammations.

Malin & Goetz Grapefruit Cleanser
Malin & Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser; $30; www.malinandgoetz.com
Helps to gently purify and hydrate to pH balance all skin types, especially sensitive skin. The great thing about this product is that it reduces the need for a toner, since it rinses residue free.

You now have the cleansing part down, all that is necessary is a good moisturizer. I am not talking about your mom's rose scented creams. These help protect your face, something that is exposed daily to all the harsh elements.

Mario Badescu After Shave Moisturizer

Mario Badescu After Shave Moisturizer; $15; www.mariobadescu.com
This non-greasy formula will not only soothe your skin after shaving but help restore moisture to your skin using lavender's anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties, coupled with algae's moisturizing properties and carnation oil to help protect against fine lines and wrinkles.

Clinique M Lotion
Clinique M Lotion; $21; www.clinique.com
This is the other half to the 2-step Clinique face cleaning regime. This lightweight lotion is great for normal to dry skin. It leaves your skin feeling smooth and comfortable, and it is great to help soothe shaving irritation!

Other brands to take a look at are Anthony Logistics, Jack Black (my personal favorite which I live by, oh and this isn't the actor), and Lab Series. If you are on a budget but don't want to cut out quality then check out Cetaphil's product line...it is the best!

Once you have added this routine to your every day lifestyle, you can add the rest of your body. Also recommended is YOUTHskin/care body exfoliator.
Youthskin/care Sugar/Jojoba Oil Body Scrub; $35; www.youthskincare.com/store
It leaves your skin feeling smooth and hydrated, plus the smell is AMAZING! Trust me guys, it won't clash with the cologne. Your man/woman will love the scent and go CRAZY!

Take the time, read about each product, find out what you need the most, and try it out! All that is left is going out now and getting those dates...hey you have to do some work! Now get to!

  2. I've used Cetaphil since I was in Junior High and I'm now 33. I think it was prescription back then. Its great! Leaves your skin soft and residue free. I recommended it to a certain blogger a few years ago but he totally blew me off! I would like to try the lavender aftershave moisturizer. I think lavender smells terrific. It has a fresh flowery scent yet I think it still smells manly. I have some great shave soap with lavender. When do I get to try your free samples? Hmmmm?

  3. @ Diana: I definitely am a little more intense than a 2-step regime. I begin by washing my face with Jack Black Face Wash using a soft face sponge. Once done with that, I apply my Jack Black Eye Moisturizer, which is AMAZING! Then, I use a toner by Bath and Body Works, Tea Tree! It's great for my oily skin! Then I top it off with Jack Black SPF Facial moisturizer.

Like I said I am huge fan of Jack Black product. I have been using it for some time. I have also used Clinique, which is also a great product! Mario Badescu makes this amazing over-night product that you can place on problematic pimples! It helps reduce inflammation and if used right when the pimple is felt, it goes away!

I am actually tempted to try out some more of Mario Badescu's product...I am almost out of my stuff...why not!

  6. So soap and water is outdated? damn!

  7. No soap and water isn't outdated! But regular soap isn't good for your face. It dries it out and doesn't put any moisture, that is good for your skin, back into it. Listen up MEN!
